Arvind Mahankali is the sixth consecutive Indian-American winner and the 11th in the past 15 years. Arvind Mahankali family is originally from Hyderabad, India. In the competition, there are separate divisions for math, science, vocab, geography, essay writing, and even public speaking. Arvind Mahankali loves maths and science and plans to pursue a career as a physicist. Arvind enjoys tennis, basketball and drama, and counts Novak Djokovic and Shaquille O’Neal among his favorite athletes. Arvind Mahankali had finished ninth in 2010 and third place in both 2011 and 2012.

Indian-Americans make up about 1 percent of the U.S. population. Balu Natarajan was first Indian-American Spelling Bee winner in 1985.
